Rise and Shine!

Please remember to eat breakfast every morning.  This will help you feel energized and think more
clearly.  Every student may eat breakfast for free this year in the cafeteria from 8:00-8:30.

Planning for good health...

Wash, wash, wash your hands!  This is the most effective way to stop the spread of germs.
Also remember to cover your cough & sneeze.  We are at that time of year again with lots of
illnesses.  Parents, please remember that students with the following conditions will be sent home from school:
*Fever of 100.0 or higher
*Vomiting/ Diarrhea
*Severe headache, stomach ache or ear ache
*Any suspected contagious illness
*Too ill to function in class
*Injuries requiring immediate medical attention

Medications

Parents, any medications that you would like your child to receive while at school must be checked into
the clinic by the parent or guardian only.  Medications may not be carried by the student.  Medication
permission forms are in the clinic and will need to be completed by you, as well.  All medications must be in the
original container.  Expired medications will not be accepted.

Emergency Contact Information

Parents, please remember to always keep us informed of your current phone numbers.  Should your child become
ill or injured during the day, we need to be able to contact you promptly.

Head Lice
Head lice continues to be an ongoing nuisance. CISD follows recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) as well as those contatined in the position papers of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the National Association of School Nurses (NASN) in the treatment for lice.  Health Services also considers community standards and impact in developing this protocol.

The goal of the school district is to support families in their efforts to control and eliminate head lice while maintaining student privacy.

Scoliosis Screening- 6th grade
Parents,  letters were sent home regarding 6th grade spinal screenings.  As a reminder, these will take place Tues., Feb. 7 for girls and Thurs., Feb. 9 for boys.  You will be notified if your child needs further evaluation by a doctor.  Please feel free to contact the school nurse with any questions.

7th grade immunizations
Letters will be sent home on Tuesday, February 7 to all 6th grade students who will require immunizations prior to 7th grade enrollment.  It is not necessary to schedule an appointment immediately.  You may obtain the immunizations between now and this summer, prior to 7th grade enrollment.  Please take your child's shot record with you to your doctor, health department, or shot clinic so it can be updated.  Most clinics will not administer vaccines without the shot record.  Please provide the school with a copy of the shot record after the shots are administered.
